Lansdowne - A Cloudy Wonderland

Well people say that happiness comes in small packages...  yes it surely does... recently it came in a package named “Lansdowne”...

Our short trip started on 9th Sept night via Mussoorie Express from Delhi to Kotdwara, and then from there we hired a jeep till Lansdowne. The 1.5 hours journey from Kotdwara to Lansdowne was breath-taking with a magnificent view of layers of lush green mountains, gushing river water, drizzle and clouds all around. Everything felt like Heaven and it was a cherry on the cake as most of us are amateur photographers.
Entering Lansdowne on next day morning was altogether a different experience. The cantonment area has a peaceful clean environment, well-dressed army officials, totally safe area, umpteen numbers of Enfields :D, and a beautiful landscape.

Our guest-house of GMVN was simple and comfortable with an amazing view from each room. It had a great variety of flowers within the premises and a lawn surrounding the entire building.
After resting for a while, we decided to go for local sight-seeing. As one of our friends was from defence, we got the opportunity to sneak-peek few great moments of army officials performing their day-to-day activities which otherwise are difficult to witness. Officials playing bigul and drums and marching with tremendous coordination on the rhythmic beats was a wow experience.

While we were trekking the Cantt area, we decided to explore a non-road trail which lead to a beautiful view point in the clouds. Though I was a bit apprehensive about it initially but something was pulling me up there. It was worth going. The next stop was the Bulla Lake which is a small pond where one can relax, go boating, get clicked, play on swings, etc. And yeah how I can forget that amazing hot Maggi from an eating joint that we had in drizzle. It was great fun. By now we had trekked about 10 kms and were really hungry so went to the market to have lunch. After lunch, we went to tip-top point to watch the sunset. It was about 4 kms from the market. And we made it just on time to see the gorgeous sunset. Then we headed back to the hotel. As planned before leaving Delhi, we had a bone-fire in the lawn, ate, drank, sang songs and danced. To surprise us all we had guests at our disposal – the clouds. I mean it was perfect. Well then we called it a day and went off to sleep.

Next day morning we went to the War Memorial where we saw a lot of things and read a lot about its past but for me the eye-catcher were the guns, the medals and the coins. They were simply superb. After this, we headed towards a place called Bhim Pakora. As much as that Pakora place was disappointment, the 3 km trail leading to it was mystic and it was raining almost throughout. I mean everything here is mesmerizing.

After all the trekking and fun, we came back to our hotel, took some rest and did final packing and left for the Kotdwara station to catch our train back home. On our way back to the station, I saw the most amazing sunset of my life till date. Totally romantic :D.

Well I didn’t want the trip to end, as it always happen, but good things come in small packages so it had to end and we caught the train and came back home.
